Matthew Bernart:

CLASS OF 1977
Eastville, VA

Matthew's Story

Since you axed. I am the Doctor's son from Franktown (son of Come-here, erstwhile Prince of Tidewater). Daddy sold the house to the Judge in Eastville about 3 year ago. After graduation day, I finished up working in PC Kellam's tater fields, visited Ed Zarnow in Australia, and went to College. I was a DJ at the College Radio Station WCWM in Williamsburg. i enjoyed working for Virginia Institute of Marine Science, as well, my first gig with real scientists. I liked how they talked.I have always enjoyed the rare occasions that I run into Eastern Shore people. The last one was Keith Brown, Dr. Brown's son from Eastville. He lives in Telluride, Colorado and is a big real estate wheeler dealer. Somewhere between junior & senior years of college I finally learnt how to study! I chased Jamie Willis (Class of '78) out to Wyoming in 1982 b/c there was good wages, but the roughnecks out there were a little too rough for me, I opted to visit Tommy & Cyndy Savage & Tom Walker in coastal California. Money ran out & I had to face reality (dang!) so it was off to graduate school and if I haven't lost you already...... I fathered two boys, that I know of, Bryan P. and Logan M. Bernart. They are great men and you can google them or look them up on YouTube o...Expand for more
r whatever. They were into making movies for a while there. Their Mom & I got divorced many years ago. After graduate school, where I learned a shitload of Chemistry from Dr. William Gerwick, I ended up at Fort Detrick in Maryland, then moved to Colorado, where I met my wife Beth. Beth & I have been together since 1992 which is pretty good considering some of yall.... Just checking to see if you could read that far. Since around then I have been slowing down, professionally, and really digging my few and precious visits back to the Shore, especially for the funeral of my dear friend Chuck Tilghman, Class of 1978. Chuck, I know you're up there, you space cadet. That was a major moment of my life. He rests there in the Cemetery at Johnsontown. Now I am very busy with lots of Chemistry students at Utah Valley University. I am trying to get some of them interested in the chemistry of different mushrooms that can be collected in Utah or almost anywhere, like down at the Sand Hills, down Savage's Neck. I also try to keep my yard up, and am thinking about building stone walls on our property, something I have never done before. Beth & I look forward to flying to North Carolina in December 2012 to pick up Daddy's car and drive it back here to Utah.
